How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in DeLand

DeLand Marijuana Card
Updated on December 8, 2021

With state parks and large cities within just a short drive, residents of DeLand enjoy a unique mix of outdoor and big city activities. With the passing of Amendment 2, residents of DeLand now have access to a great new treatment option for a variety of conditions.

If you are a resident of DeLand, and have been curious about medical marijuana, you’ve come to the right place! After reading through this post, you should have a good idea of whether or not you’re eligible for medical marijuana in Florida.

And while DeLand doesn’t yet have a dispensary to call its own, we’ll point you in the right direction on where in the area around DeLand you can buy legal cannabis products.

While some counties in Florida have sought to make purchasing and using medical marijuana more difficult, Volusia County has gone above and beyond to accommodate those who need medical marijuana to get relief.

In November 2018, Volusia County voted to allow medical marijuana to be used on school campuses. This is great news for students suffering from conditions that are easily treated with medical marijuana, as beforehand they had been forced to go without their medication while on school grounds.

In the next few paragraphs, we are going to go over what steps you need to take to get approved for a medical marijuana card in DeLand. There isn’t much to it, and usually within less than a month, you should have no problems purchasing legal cannabis products!

First thing’s first: Give CannaMD a call at (855) 420-9170 and schedule an appointment with a medical marijuana physician. CannaMD has an office located within the heart of the city. You can find us at the address below:

120 S Woodland Blvd, Suite 215

DeLand, FL 32720

When you meet with a CannaMD medical marijuana physician, they will go over your symptoms and determine if your condition qualifies you for medical marijuana in Florida. Our doctors are very knowledgeable when it comes to medical marijuana and its qualifying conditions, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Once we determine that you are eligible for medical marijuana treatment in Florida, a recommendation is sent on to the Florida Department of Health for final approval. The Florida Department of Health will then email you with login information for their patient portal where you can complete the registry identification card application and pay the state-required $75 fee.

It takes anywhere from 7 to 21 business days to hear back, at which point you should receive your temporary medical marijuana card that you can use right away to begin purchasing medical marijuana!

To be eligible for medical marijuana in Florida, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualifying conditions, as stated in Florida’s Senate Bill 8A include:

Additionally, you may qualify for medical marijuana if you suffer from other “diagnosable, debilitating conditions of the same like, kind, or class” (such as anxietydepression, and migraines). Terminal conditions that have been diagnosed by a doctor other than your medical marijuana doctor may also qualify for medical marijuana treatment. Lastly, if you suffer from chronic nonmalignant pain, you may still qualify for medical marijuana in Florida.

For a more complete list of qualifying conditions, see CannaMD’s Qualifying Conditions Resource Page.

To prove your Florida residency, make sure you bring a photo ID to your appointment. Seasonal Florida residents may demonstrate residency by supplying two of the following documents:

  • A deed or monthly mortgage statement
  • Proof of residential address from the person with whom you’re staying and a supporting statement
  • A utility hookup or work order
  • A utility bill
  • Mail from a financial institution
  • Mail from a government agency
  • Any other documentation that provides proof of residential address

Temporary/Seasonal Florida residents may qualify for medical marijuana if they meet the following criteria:

  • Live in Florida for at least 31 consecutive days each calendar year
  • Maintain a temporary residence in Florida
  • Return to their home state at least once a year
  • Are a registered U.S. voter or pay income tax in another state

Volusia County officials fully support medical marijuana within the county, although DeLand has expressed its desire to keep dispensaries restricted from within city limits. At the time of publication, DeLand doesn’t have a medical marijuana treatment center (MMTC) to call its own, but there are plenty within short driving distance.
